Meghan Matthews

Meghan has played violin since the age of 4.  She began learning with the Suzuki method and at the age of 7, began intense training to become a professional violinist.  At the age of 11, she became a member of the Northwest Indiana Youth Symphony Orchestra, and from the ages of 12-16, played as the concertmistress of the orchestra.   At the age of 13, Meghan was accepted into the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra.  In 1994, Meghan traveled with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra on a 3-week tour of Italy.  In 1997, she traveled with the orchestra on a 3-week tour of Europe, including England, Scotland, Germany, and Amsterdam, culminating in a concert at the Concertgebouw, considered one of the finest concert halls in the world.  She has taught violin lessons since the age of 15, beginning at two music studios in Northwest Indiana (Perdicaris Music and O’Day Music Studio), and continued teaching in Chicago and Bloomington.  Her teachers have included world-renowned violinists and teachers, Rachel Barton Pine and Cyrus Forough.  

Meghan began learning piano at the age of 10 and continued studying the instrument through college. She enjoys many varied genres of piano music. She enjoys teaching beginning piano students of any age. 

Meghan is a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA), Suzuki Association of Indiana, (SAI), and the American String Teachers Association (ASTA).  Meghan utilizes the Suzuki method for beginning violin students and is working towards Suzuki teacher certification.  

Since her early classical training, Meghan has learned Irish fiddle, old-time and bluegrass, and folk and fiddle improvisation techniques.
