Meghan Matthews

Meghan first began playing Zimbabwean music in 2005 at Indiana University Bloomington as part of an African Music and Culture class taught by Dr. Sheasby Matiure in the Folklore and Ethnomusicology Department. In 2006, she was invited to join the Mbira Queens and shortly after, the Mutinhimira Marimba Ensemble at Indiana University Bloomington. Meghan earned her undergraduate degree in Ethnomusicology from IU in 2007. She has remained active in the Zimbabwean music scene, traveling with the Mbira Queens and Dr. Sheasby Matiure in 2008 to Zimfest in Tacoma, WA. In 2014, she acted as volunteer tour coordinator for Bloomington when Dr. Sheasby Matiure traveled to the US for a four-month tour. In 2018 and 2019, she helped to coordinate the US tours of Tafadzwa Matiure, Dr. Matiure’s son. She has studied Zimbabwean marimba with Dr. Sheasby Matiure, Tafadzwa Matiure, Eric Miller, and Gary Spalter, and Zimbabwean mbira with Dr. Sheasby Matiure, Tafadzwa Matiure, Patience Chaitezvi Munjeri, Cosmas Magaya, and Musikewa Chingodza

Meghan has played Zimbabwean marimba in and around the Bloomington community since graduating from IU. In 2015, Meghan began building Zimbabwean marimba. In 2018, the current ensemble, Wadzanai Marimba, was formed. Meghan teaches workshops privately and through the MAYO Bridges organization in Bloomington.


Addy Reef


Addy has played Zimbabwean marimba since 2014, and Zimbabwean mbira since 2018. She joined the Wadzanai Marimba Ensemble in 2018 when it was founded, and has performed in and around Bloomington since. In 2019, she traveled to Oregon to participate in Zimfest, a Zimbabwean music and dance festival. While there, she studied and learned marimba from Dr. Michael Sibanda, Tafadzwa Matuire, Daniel Lockley, and Eric Miller. She has also studied with Dr. Sheasby Matiure, Danmore Kusaya, and Meghan Matthews. Addy has experience working with children of all ages, in group and private settings. Addy co-runs group lessons twice a month, co-teaches group workshops, and teaches private individual lessons.

Meghan & Aidan run a twice a month group lesson that we call Marimba Club! Marimba Club members have participated with Wadzanai Marimba ensemble for performances.
